Lui 50 alternative piston?!

Post  Nobby on Fri Oct 27, 2017 4:04 am

Hello Nobby here... first post :-),
Ok I think I already know the answer to this but is there a thin ringed (Japanese?) piston to replace the lui 50 standard one!?... looking to get barrel tuned but keep it 50cc! So I’m looking for a replacement modern type thin ring piston ....anyone ever used one?
Thanks!...

Thanks...
I’ll go into more detail to see if anyone can help further...
I (we) are entering a charity moped endurance race and the restrictions are the bike/scoot must be 50cc and have a standard exhaust... now we don’t want to win but we don’t want to look stupid and it would be nice to give some modern peds some sort of run for their money so we are looking to tune the standard lui barrel and carb (we have a tuner who has said he’s happy to do it but obviously the thick cast rings are a stumbling block, so has anyone attempted to tune a lui topend before (piston, carb chooses?) , I’m guessing most people just convert to a vega 75 topend? But Someone must of had a go at some time?
Many thanks...

I'll ask on the facebook group - there are some Italian lads who seem pretty nutty with the tunes they do but as you say, I'd guess most / all got for more cc's.

I am intrigued by a 'moped endurance event,' how far is it please? I have mental image of it being to the bottom of the road and back!

The scramble bit sounds good fun!
Here's what I got; not sure how stringent the rules \ your wish to stay 50cc but Yamaha FS1 was reported positively but needs a bore and is 55cc.
A Puch one was also suggested but that'll give 70cc.
Finally someone mentioned Pistoni Gol who I've never heard of but they stock Lui pistons but also have this software where you can put your preferred spec in and it'll search the stock.
I got frightened by the technical stuff at this point!

Why not keep your eyes open for cento gears, clutch and drive mechanism just in case you do find your tuner is capable of getting a lot more power - because other wise your gearing will limit you

Or is it that it being a 'scramble' that power is what you need

Yeah I don’t think it needs tall gearing on a scramble track?.. we won’t be going flat out for long periods!... I have heard the lui gearing is rubbish tho!-so I was thinking of putting a 12 tooth front sprocket on it tho?... and a 3 plate clutch (there will probably be a lot of clutch action!)...
