Still got parts

Post  siobhanellis on Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:58 pm

I've still got parts. Most of the rare parts are gone, but I still have two complete engines. One is free, the other is seized, but sure that there are some salvageable parts in there.

Siobhan,

on the cometa i just picked up, the air box is broken where it attaches to the carb. the other parts are all there, clamp, filter, twist on cover etc. any chance you have a good air filter box?

also, if it is the same box, the Vega bitsa I am reassembling, needs a complete air box. it came with some kind of an air box, but think it is wrong for the machine. almost looks like a small frame vespa one. ill put some pics up in the thread about that scooter soon.

thanks!
Gene

airbox

Post  siobhanellis on Sat Dec 29, 2012 2:11 pm

Gene,

original air boxes are very unusual.

Casa Lambretta remakes one. DOn't get an early one as petrol melts it.

Siobhan

when you say "unusual" you mean mega rare Smile

how can I tell if the repop airbox is an early or late one?

I'd say that any supplier now would have a new one only. Get from a reputable supplier and you'll be able to return if an old one.

Mega rare is indeed the answer. Occasionally original ones pop up on ebay, but not often.

A repop for that price, or an original... Mmm

Think I've seen someone in Thailand listing a vega box NOS for around the same price, I'll have to look for it. It seems only the box is damaged, the internals are all perfect. This scoot is all original so I'd prefer an original box.

I think my bitsa Vega also needs an air box so a repop is fine for that, everything else on the scoot is lol

This scoot only has 300 miles, so it is a good indicator of wear issues. Ill add that to my show your ride thread.

I think there is a diffrence between the 2 models, the Vega one has holes in the box and is perhaps a little longer. I'm sure Daz can say for sure.
Ive checked Scootopia and there repro box is around £72.
You could try contacting Armando's they're the ones selling the new cranks

Pete posted this awhile back now

Some good outlets, but i dont have any links to websites. Perhaps a post in the wanted section might work

yeah, both boxes are much different, the opening on the lui is quite large, and has two holes in the back.
the vega box is still quite big, but now remade in a plastic rather than that bakerlite type stuff and hence why so many of them got broken while kick starting the machine.
as siobhan said the early boxes were not petrol friendly and melted, not sure if they were recalled, probably just swapped over if someone complained.

unfortunately for me, i had just taken delivery of 15 self assemble vega airboxes, i'd had manufactured at the time the cassa ones were produced, so i was not prepared to go head to head with sales, fortunately for me theres started melting and mine sold very quickly.

I paid extremely good money for a new old stock air filter box complete from a dealer and the bloody thing melted.. totally gutted Sad. I too wanted as much originality that i could get for my Cometa.
Then i spotted the Thailand nos airboxes on FleaBay and decided to give it a chance. I was totally satisfied, so much so i bought another!! I'm not sure if there are any left but if there are snap them up as quick as you can. The delivery was very quick and well packaged for protection Very Happy
