Hi

Can anyone give me a measurement for where to place upper brackets for external fork dampers?

Ed, have you got a scooter (larger series) with them on to measure the length from eye to eye?

Do you mean that its the same measurement that is applied to big boy lambreattas?

I do have one with them fitted - bolt on rather than welded - but if I have you right I could just your the measurement quoted in stickys spanner book?

Thanks for all the advice, although I still really have anymore idea as to where to tell the welder to place the brackets!

I guess I will just have to assemble the parts I have and mark it out properly. As per usual I've been trying to avoid working something out for myself by asking questions! Very Happy

Ok, so taking into account all of the above the eye to eye is not critical but go for the mid way point of suggestions about 22cm. I'm guessing you are using series 3 type dampers? Dry assemble the hub into the forks and fit the damper to the axle fitting. What method are you using?. I used the Jem Booth axle nuts with a 6mm stud for the lower. The damper looks best fitted as parallel as possible up the fork leg in my opinion. This will give you a position to fit the upper bracket. I used masking tape and pen marks to indicate the position for the welder to do his magic. Or you could take the whole assembly down for a tack weld and take appart for final welding. Both sides must be the same in all views. This is a conversion well worth the effort and with the availability of damper brackets these days much neater than some of the bodges back when.

Thanks Paul that helps a lot - the method I'm using is via the Daz H stainless steel hub spindles, not sure which dampers to use - I have Escorts on my GP but would prefer something thinner if anyone has any good recommendations? Not bought anything yet but my budget is quite small.

Ed, there are a few photos in the Rallies ans Events section, under the V.M.S.C thread that might give you a insight as to damper type and bracket position Exclamation

Thanks David

Think I am just about there now, I've taken the advice above and assembled my parts and I am going to get them tack welded in place before dismantling the forks.

Mentioning the brackets though I am fairly disappointed as I bought them some time ago from a usually reliable source and never checked them and they are miles off being matching and are fairly rough.

Im not too impressed with the rubber bits in the dampers I bought either to be honest.
