It's a yellow thing (Lui 75)

Post  Godfrey too on Sat Oct 27, 2012 12:07 pm

Picked this up in June from Sheffield and the car still smells on old gearbox oil that leaked on the back seat. It was pretty much all there well all the impotant bits were. Fortunatly the fire had not badly damaged the engine and frame. The frame number suggests it is a late model from the last 1970 production run although the LCGB dating cert now states 1969? I have had this with other scooters that come back older than their numbers suggest.

I was determined this was not going to be another project that sat in the garage for several years so stripped it down that week and sent it to the powder coaters who blasted prepped and coated the scooter for £150. It was not possible to match the paint codes exactly but the match is very close to the yellow ochre although the photos do not really show this (looks a completely diffrent colour). I have used as many of the old parts as possible

It is pretty much finished although I still have to sort out the electrics and am going have strip the engine down again due to an almost invisible crack in the bottom of the engine casing which I muissed on first inspectiion. I plan to get it MOT'd and registered first. All told it will have cost around £1,100.

Hi the first four numbers are 6562. I have finally got a registration number on a G plate. A big thanks to the DVLA for making the process so painful and time consuming.

Am I correct in thinking that no one else can see the photos. If so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the information I had based the year of manufacture from The Lambretta Bible by Pete Davies.

Manufacture Date

Post  Admin on Tue Jan 29, 2013 2:01 am

Hi, yes thats the book written by me. However, since the publication of the book I've been handed further more detailed information by the Italians and the months of production are not as was previously thought.

Vega and Cometa models were only built during the following months:

1968: August, September, October, November, December

1969: January, February, March, April, May, June

1970: February, April, September, December

I've since submitted the new material for the revised edition of my book BUt this new info from the Italians arrived after that so it won't even be in the revised edition of the book.

Thanks I am now convinced that it is a 69. Are there many other changes in the new revised edition?

Book

The book has revised text, information on the months of the most and least production, new photos, a new chapter on information sent out by Lambretta Concessionaires. I guess its not a 100% new book but its been changed enough that I think people will want a copy
