Lui headlight

Post  Scooter Paul on Wed Dec 03, 2014 11:22 am

Has anyone successfully converted a Lui single filament headlight to a twin filament type without resorting to fitting a 75cc Vega type? I'm hoping there is a bulb holder available that will fit the original reflector. Similar question for the tail as well please.

I've done it to two Lui headlights by machining some nylon top hats with a tight press fit to hold a H4 halogen bulb. Not the best of pics to see but it can be done

Thanks for the reply. I've also looked up the MOT requirements for mopeds. As I read it a Lui 50 does not need a high beam (dipped only is ok) as they're pre 1972 and doesn't need a brake light as they're pre 1986. So as I read it good to go as is.

For my rear light/brake light I've used an original Lui back light mount and fitting. Then I've wired the loom up to two speedo bulb holders and bulbs up. When running, one single speedo bulb is lit, when braking the other one lights up. All made to fit into the proper holder. No hassle. Very Happy

I was planning to do similar. I bought a dual filament holder I can fit into the original housing.

Confirmed with my MOT tester, no need for brake light or high beam headlight. Also, though not an MOT requirement, no need for a speedo if 'not capable of exceeding 25mph'.
