Years ago I used a chrome pancake filter on a standard carb, like the car ones .It was similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pancake-Air-Filter-for-Amal-900-82-6432-/130743354220?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item1e70e9436c

My ex racer from 1971 had exactly this type of filter. It needed an adapter but worked well.

Thanks I'll see if I can find one that has a small enough mounting hole to fit my Sh1/20

What did it have as an adapter Paul?

This is the smallest I can find which is probably the same as some of the others on the K&N site but might be worth a punt at the price

the 0 in the part number is a zero not the letter o, that might have been the problem

I purchased the K&N filter and it works fine but its so loose I think the first big bump I go over it will do one like my last filter. If you try and tighten it too much the tightening action just pushes it off the carb. I'm beginning to think I should bite the bullet and purchase a repo original filter. Do these tend to fit more securely? I don't want that flying off as well
